Our Doctor
At Countryside Veterinary Center, we’re proud to be led by Dr. Jason Heitzman, a compassionate and dedicated veterinarian who brings both expertise and a personal touch to every appointment. He is committed to providing exceptional care for pets and building lasting relationships with families in our community.
Meet Dr. Heitzman
Dr. Jason Heitzman grew up overseas, in Germany and Japan. His father was an educator for Military schools in these areas. He did not move to the States until he was 17, learning to drive on the left side of the road! He has always had a passion for animals and dreamed of being a Veterinarian. He wouldn’t tell you, but he has imposter syndrome and didn’t think he would get into Veterinary School. After much cajoling from his wife, he was finally ready to go back to school, earning his Bachelor’s in 3 years from NCSU and immediately accepted to NC State’s College of Veterinary Medicine.
Dr. Heitzman graduated from the NCSU College of Veterinary Medicine in 2013. He began his career in a mixed-animal practice in Northern Indiana, where he spent four years treating both large and small animals. He enjoyed working on different farms and practicing on a large variety of animals. In 2017, he returned to Virginia to be closer to family and spend more time with his young children. They settled in North Chesterfield and shifted his focus to small animal medicine.
Dr. Heitzman previously worked at Countryside as a relief veterinarian. When the opportunity arose to take over the clinic, he was thrilled at the thought of running his own family-run practice. He relishes each appointment, answering questions and educating clients in a way they can understand.
Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with both his two- and four-legged family members. Somehow, the tiny baby they had in vet school is now a middle schooler, and the baby they moved to Virginia with is now a 3rd grader! He has a variety of dogs, from small to the full-sized poodle, Korey, who you will see in his office from time to time. In the evenings, he unwinds through painting (he thinks he’s a terrible painter, but if you ask Jess, she will show you how amazing it is). He also enjoys building intricate LEGO creations (preferably Star Wars themed), but Jess says painting is cheaper. He always whispers, “Do you think that dog would like me?” every time he sees one.
